I don't see a lot of people (or videos of people) doing contact juggling with LED balls. I've heard that the illusion doesn't look as good with LED as it does in the light with an acrylic, is that true? I suppose it's all a matter of opinion. I was also considering buying an LED juggling ball online, but I can't find any that are rechargeable. Does anyone know where I could find a rechargeable one? (Well, actually I found these: www.neonhusky.com/JShop/pro....php/364/1 but they say they are "soft", so I don't know if that will work.)

Re: LED CJing
Tue, September 1, 2009 - 5:03 PMThe reason I haven't picked one up yet is because they look off balance. I can't imagine getting a solid butterfly with one. The isolations might be off since you can see the light moving inside. Go for it though and let us know what you find out! -

Re: LED CJing
Wed, September 2, 2009 - 2:29 PMI'd be curious as to the balance/glow of the LED stage balls.
I have one of the 3" hard contact spheres neon husky makes, and it works pretty well. The little rubber plug that covers the switch is both a help and a hindrance: it keeps the ball spherical but also changes the texture in that one spot. -

Re: LED CJing
Thu, September 10, 2009 - 4:58 PMI just got my Stage Glowball from Neon Husky (it came really fast, I only ordered it 2 days ago). It's got a nice grippy feel to it, it's very light, perhaps slightly heavier than my regular stage ball. That works for me since I'm still trying to master using the heavier acrylic, so I don't think I would have been very successful with one of the hard glowballs because of the weight.
The only thing I really dislike about it is the fact that there is nothing to cover up the switch with, and it leaves a very obvious light ring on one part of the ball. The LED is dispersed pretty evenly inside the ball, except for in the spot where the switch is - it's much brighter in that one spot. It kind of ruins the illusion because you can see the switch and the brighter light rotating on the ball when you move it. Plus since there's a shallow hole where the switch is, it feels weird to roll the ball around my hands.
I wish mine would have come with a rubber plug like you mentioned. It's pretty annoying not having a perfectly spherical ball.
But I do like it and I plan on keeping it, although I think I might try for one of the hard glowballs once I feel more comfortable with acrylics.

Re: LED CJing
Sun, September 13, 2009 - 7:55 PMAs others here have noted, there aren't any "perfect" LED CJ balls. Or at least none found yet.
But the real problem with lighted and GITD CJ balls is that they're just not bright enough. They should illuminated enough of the immediate area so that the specs can see the ball and juggler _in_relation_to_each_other._ An isolation where you can't see the juggler is just a ball hanging in the air, and a butterfly looks like a broken railroad signal or a drunken firefly. YOU must be seen, too.
Something to consider is the use of ground-effect lighting. I don't think Neon Husky has them yet, but you can see them and order them at www.coolneon.com. Two or three of these on the ground around you and you have your own distinctly lit performance space, and because the ground-effect lights are programmable in multiple colors, you get a great light show or the mood-light of your choice.
Another thought: instead of lighting the ball, try wearing LED rings on each hand, with the lights on the palm side.

Re: LED CJing
Sun, September 27, 2009 - 1:00 PMI would love a "good' LED CJ ball, but I haven't found one that i like.
I personally use a UV acrylic and carry around a UV or Purple Light Photon to light it up. It works nicely. I was thinking about making a bracelet that i could attache the photons to or maybe attaching one to a hat so when i look at the ball the UV is lit up.
