Re: 4 inch glowball
Mon, February 18, 2008 - 7:39 PMIf a 100mm glow-in-the-dark stage ball will suffice, Mister Babache has you covered:

Re: 4 inch glowball
Fri, May 2, 2008 - 9:57 PMJust gonna throw this out there, I bought a 4" Glow-In-The-Dark Acrylic from Neon Husky. Gotta admit, it was a toughie getting the whole thing significantly lit. I'd go with the Hard Shelled LED 76 mm Ball.
With happiness,

Re: 4 inch glowball
Tue, May 6, 2008 - 11:57 PMGetting GITD-anything lit evenly is difficult.
Best way I found was to use a pre-computer draftsman's lamp. The kind with a circular flourescent lamp around a large magnifying glass. Put your GITD ball (acrylic, stage, dog) on top of a mirror and put the lamp as close as possible directly above the ball without actually touching it. Five minutes should max the glow, but it's still a bit wimpy unless there's total darkness.
Best night ball I had was a 10" dog ball, the kind for Mastiffs and Lions. Find a translucent one (I got orange) and drill a small hole in it. Pour the contents of several large activated light sticks into the ball (use a funnel to keep from getting the glowcrap all over yourself), and cork it with a clear silicone plug from a hardware store or made from pre-formed clear caulk. The glowcrap settles to the bottom quickly, so you have to keep CJing to make it clearly visible as a ball.
I found that wearing a long-sleeved white shirt and white pants gave a very nice effect in the dark. The ball gives off just enough light to make its relationship to your white-clad movement noticeable. Wearing black just makes you invisible, and turns the ball into a light that bobs up and down. The back paths at Oregon Country Fair are good, esp on a moonless night.

Re: 4 inch glowball
Wed, March 12, 2008 - 1:16 PMI figured another reply was in order, since I have new leads for your glow-ball quest:
Neon Husky now carries 76mm hard-shelled glo-spheres in a variety of colors. I ordered one in, and it's really outstanding. The color is VERY bright, and the ball has the solid feel and weight of an acrylic. As a bonus to a complete klutz like me, it has so far proven to be all but indestructible. I've given it a solid drop or two on concrete and it didn't even scuff the surface.
If you can shake loose of of the 4" requirement I'd seriously recommend giving one a shot for your routine.
A friend caught a couple of pictures of mine in action:

The one I got has a "fade" effect, because I couldn't settle on a single color. I've been told when I get my timing right it appears as though my moves cause the ball to shift hue. -

Re: 4 inch glowball
Tue, March 25, 2008 - 10:28 AMGlad you sorted it out in any case.
Out of curiosity, what is your opinion of the MB glow ball? I was mostly interested in how easily it picked up scuffs and such. -

Re: 4 inch glowball
Tue, May 6, 2008 - 8:14 PMthe MB Glow ball is pretty nice. it picks up scuffs about as much as regular MB balls, but as long as you take care of it, it cleans up well. also, charging them under a black light has great results. they glow so brightly that i was surprised.
